Preparation for the Regis & Kelly High Heel-athon continues. Now that Shane has his 3" heels ready, today it was time to work with Phyllis Spencer. Phyllis is and NYPD cop, and former Colgate Games champion. Plus she’s a dancer and constantly in high heels, so I decided that she was our best bet to represent City Coach at the race.
Today – in a classic "only in New York" moment, Phyllis practiced her high heeled sprinting down Adam Clayton Powell Blvd. in Harlem. Women were coming out of the hair salon and bodega to ask what was going on. Kids gathered around. The lovely young lady pictured at the left asked if she could take on Phyllis for 50 meters. In separate heats, Phyllis outpaced the young lady, as well as her own fleet footed 9-year old son LJ. We worked on different start and pacing strategies, and also discussed
the ideal shoe to run in while staying within the strict limits set out
by the race director.
We’ll keep you posted.
