Stretching; The Truth

Posted by:

Usually I like to present myself as the world's foremost authority on everything (including things of which I know nothing.)  Today I will defer to my friends at the U.C. Berkeley Wellness Letter
and their expertise on stretching.  Unlike many other pieces on the topic, this one is accurate, based on science, and presents practical tips for athletes.  Click through and take a look.

Stretching, one of the simplest fitness activities,
is controversial. Will it prevent ...

Justice Is Blind. And Dumb As a Box of Rocks.

Lemme get this straight.  Plaxico Burress shot himself in the leg and is doing two years in jail.  Charles Alexander Diez shot a cyclist (who was with his 4-year old son) in the back of the head, and has been sentenced to four months in jail.

But Can She Do It Pushing a Stroller?

Posted by:

Bedard I just found an article about Ginette Bedard from the Daily News.  Anyone want to complain that they're slowing down because they're getting old?  A 3:46 marathon ain't shabby for a 75-year old woman.

I love the idea of the guy lining up for his race and looking over at Ms. Bedard and thinking "why is granny lined up with me?  Geesh!"  and then ...

I'm hesitant to write this blog entry.  The last time I wrote an entry to announce I was off the bench, I was promptly thrown back by a new injury.

So, it appears that I am doing well now.  That is, well enough to begin normal training again.  If you're trying to remember what my last injury was, don't bother.  I'll recap.  Picture it, ...

Knickerbocker 60k Race Report

Posted by:

Knickerbocker 60k 013 None of our crazies ran the Knickerbocker 60k today, but there were plenty of Friends of City Coach taking advantage of the perfect running weather.  Among them were women's winner Carol Buonanno, Claude Meliarenne, Kwok-Ming Cheng, Danny Campos, Nate Schiller, Melissa Woods and Sandra Ferrari,

And in case you've forgotten, I still think the course is long.  Last year I questioned Continue Reading →

Chris Solarz, I’ve Seen Your Future

Between compulsively searching for marathon cheaters and compulsively doing ken-ken puzzles (9×9 thankyouverymuch) I was reading the Wall Street Journal and came upon a fun story about "Mega Marathoners".

Open Letter to a Cheater

Open Letter to a Cheater

Dear Cheater:

We all know that it’s frustrating to get rejected from the lottery for a big race.  And it’s no fun to have to pay so much for a race like the NYC Marathon, even if you’re in the employ of a large investment banking firm (like – oh i dunno – maybe Merrill Lynch for instance.)  I’m impressed that you’re such a crafty fella and have found a nice way around these little annoyances by printing your own number.  ...
