Irresponsible & Unbalanced Writing from the New York Daily News

Posted by:

332137_2331392608657_1365009252_32375060_756765752_oNo doubt the issue of road sharing by cyclists, runners, walkers and cars in Prospect Park is a tricky one. And the serious cases of two pedestrians being seriously injured in collisions with cyclists are tragic regardless of who was to blame. But our friends at the New York Daily News have managed to write an almost implausibly one-sided, innacurate and irresponsible article on ...

Peoquot Runners Thanksgiving Day 5 Miler Race Results

Posted by:

Strong work on Turkey Day by City Coach's Luke McCambley, who ran 26:10 (5:14/mile) at the Peoquot Runners Thanksgiving Day 5 Miler. That's comparable to the pace that Luke was racing for 5 miles earlier this season, so he's clearly getting stronger.

Do we have any more team results from Turkey Trots? Send me your results.

Posted by:

373915_10150390522056313_556091312_8349338_181876502_nCongratulations to the legend on legs, Francis Laros, who finished today's NYRR Knickerbocker 60k (that's 37.2 for you Americans keeping score at home) in 4:41:19. That effort was good for 6th overall (in a field of 270 finishers), and clocked in at an average of 7:33 per mile. Apparently Francis didn't get the memo about needing time to recover after his 2:41 ...

Yoga for Runners This Friday

Posted by:

Our friend and teammate Jen Heister is teaching a Yoga for Runners class Friday at Yoganesh, 7th Ave between 23rd & 24th St at 7:30p. Here's more info from Jen.

Running and yoga make the perfect pair of strength and flexibility. Join other runners to increase balance, flexibility, and strength. Learn how to focus your attention internally on your body’s movements rather than on an external outcome (winning a race).

How To Get a Strong Core (pre-pregnancy)

Posted by:

DSC_0257So this is the first of a 3-part series on getting a six-pack (the other two installments will include pregnancy and post-pregnancy fitness).

Before I begin, let me just put out a couple disclaimers. 1) This is what worked for me. I hope it works for you. Sorry, there is no money-back guarantee. 2)  I am Sheila's daughter. Genetics have something, but not everything,  to ...

The Official Unofficial City Coach Beer Mile Race Results

Posted by:

IMG_0361I am always proud of our team. Never more than at our annual Beer Mile this past Friday, where we witnessed a tight race in both the men's and women's fields.

The Official Unofficial City Coach Beer Mile all-time records are still held by Naterator and Leanne, both of whom were on hand but not racing.

Some of the beers may not have been in compliance ...

Fitness During Pregnancy, Part 1

Posted by:

IMG_0484While I was pregnant, I continued to exercise, and I think that really helped me in the delivery. I was not willing or able to do any high intensity workouts and the program was a vast change from what I normally do. Nonetheless, the benefits were great.

Here are the things that helped me immensely:

Floradix–this non-constipating iron supplement boosted my energy beyond belief.

Gabrialla Maternity belt–this gave me support ...
