Hamptons Marathon/Half Marathon Race Report

According to the City Coach Historian, Kevin Starkes set the CCMS marathon record back in 2008 with a 2:39:11 in New York. Kevin’s record held up until yesterday, when it was broken by…..Kevin Starkes. Kevin ran 2:38:24 on his was to winning the Hamptons Marathon. He ran a remarkable smart race despite running alone from miles 13-25. Kevin came through the halfway mark at 1:19:24, at which point Dashing Whippets’ Jeremy Adler held a ten second lead. ITU Duathlon World Championship 2012, Part 2

Run: The gun goes off and it’s incredible how hot the pace is from the offset. I’m easily in the middle to the back within the first half mile. These women can run. All of them. ITU Duathlon World Championship 2012, Part 1

“I’ve never surprised myself in a race where I ran a time I didn’t gun for. This isn’t luck.If you don’t believe you can do something, you aren’t going to surprise yourself and do it.”–sub-3 marathoner and teammate Bonnie Averbuch during a workout.

Pre-race: The stress involved in getting to France exceeded anything I could have imagined. Between spending a boat load of money for travel and board and the race itself, dealing with hotel confirmation/cancellation, sitting on the tarmac for 5.5 ...

No Whining – 5th Avenue Mile Edition

Check out this stunning photograph of athlete Alexander Garrett at Saturday’s 5th Avenue Mile.  I saw him race and was then struck by the amazing photograph taken by Ben Ko of Dashing Whippets. Both Mr. Garrett and Mr. Ko deserve kudos. 201582_4804960047658_1917564621_o (1)
