NYPD Memorial 5k Race Report

Back in 2002 I ran the inaugural NYPD Memorial 5k, while in the employ of the NYPD as a fitness instructor. I left the NYPD, and many good friends in 2004 but continue to encourage City Coach athletes to run the race, and support a good cause. I stopped by yesterday to see some old friends, and to cheer on the team. Our racers didn’t disappoint, as I got to watch City Coach athletes win both the men’s and ...

The Orange County race was one of three regional qualifiers, and the top six in each age group ...

Pave vs. Save. The Tale of The Putnam Trail

Posted by:

“We don’t need any more paved trails in the Bronx. Please leave it alone. I ride my bike almost daily there.” – Mike Peppard — Petition signature 2071-Bronx, NY

“There are plenty of trees in Van Cortlandt Park.” – City Council Member & Van Cortlandt Park Ex-Oficio Board Member Oliver Koppell.

Van Cortlandt Park’s Putnam Nature Trail is one of my favorite places. For running, for coaching, for walking with my son. Whether I’m running or strolling (admittedly those paces have gotten alarmingly similar ...

Great Athletes Make Great Coaches

Great Athletes Make Great Coaches

A few weeks back I wrote about my former teacher, Sam Ulano. When I studied with Sam, I would often tell him what a good teacher he was. Sam was (justifiably) quite confident in his methods and abilities as a teacher, but he was also ...
