Marathon Carb Loading

Marathon Carb Loading

With the NYC Marathon just around the corner, let’s go over a few glycogen loading basics.

Keep in mind that your body can only store about 2,000 calories worth of glycogen. Fully loading your glycogen tank – coupled with prudent race day nutrition – will help ensure that you avoid “hitting the wall”. Despite what the old school used to say, there’s little or (probably) no reason to deplete your glycogen stores before loading. Because you’re tapering and significantly decreasing your ...

26 Tips, 26.2 Miles

26 Tips, 26.2 Miles
OK, the training is all but done, but over the last week there are still details to attend to if you plan to race strong.
  1. Go to the expo as early as possible. If you’re in NYC, don’t give up your home field advantage. As runners arrive from out of town the expo will get more and more crowded. When at the expo, get in, get out. I have never turned down anything that’s free, so am not advocating that you pass ...

NYC Marathon Course Management

Very nice work by Liz Corkum at the oh-so-windy Atlantic City Half Marathon. Liz finished in 1:35:11. Though that’s well off her PR, it’s reflective of the conditions, and it was still good for 5th overall in the women’s field, and 3rd in the AG.

Congratulations Liz.

Westchester Triathlon Results

Congratulations to Cousin Brian Sica on his strong performance at the Westchester Triathlon where he finished in 2:13:00 – good for 3rd place in the 25-29 AG.

To our great pleasure, Brian joined City Coach after leaving his previous team, and he’s already making noise. He finished 2013 strong, and we’ll settle for nothing less than global domination from him in 2014.

Wineglass Marathon Race Report x 2

Wineglass Marathon Race Report x 2

There are few things that I enjoy more than sharing a happy race report. But sharing two happy race reports qualifies.

Yesterday Jamie Kyei and Adele Laboz raced the Wineglass Marathon, and each, in their own way, had a great race.

Jamie finished in 3:02:08, running a strong, smart race (complete with a negative split) to hold on to second place. To say that I am proud of Jamie for sticking with the plan and racing so well is an understatement. ...
