NYRR 60k Race Results

Last weekend Jessica Purcell decided that 26.2 miles isn’t enough, so she (voluntarily) registered for the nine fun-filled laps that make up the NYRR (I’ll Always Call You Knickerbocker) 60k. Apparently Jess didn’t like it that much because she chose not to stay out there nearly as long as the other ladies. In fact, Jess only took 6:02:18 (9:45/mile), which was good enough for 12th out of the 104 women in the field, and 2nd in her AG.

Congratulations JZ.

Brooklyn Marathon Results

Apparently Jeffrey “J-Train” Dweck didn’t get the memo that you’re not supposed to run a marathon just two weeks after setting your marathon PR. Nor did he see that if you do indulge in such nonsense, you should choose a gentle course, rather than something that involves multiple laps and significant climbing. Lucky for Jeff, since he ran 3:10:02 at the Brooklyn Marathon, which was good for 2nd in the 40-49 AG.

Additional congratulations to J. Geoff Badner (3:30:29) and ...

Amelia & Her Achilles Team

It is now Tuesday and I am just sitting down and capable of sorting through the overwhelming emotions I felt running the New York City Marathon on Sunday as an Achilles guide. It was by far the best marathon experience I have had to date! Even better than my second place marathon podium finish four weeks ago! It all started with a text message from my steady running partner Jonathan Stenger. “Any interest in being an Achilles guide with me? ...

Marathon Recovery

Marathon Recovery

Below is my annual repost on marathon recovery.

Now that that nonsense is out of the way, here are some ways to promote post-marathon recovery.

  • Move. Cooling down prevents blood from pooling in your legs and helps clear lactic acid. (If you’ve paid attention to my earlier posts, you know that lactic acid levels will return to baseline even if you lay down the moment you cross the line, and lactic acid has nothing to do with soreness, but an active cool ...
