At our recent pre-race briefing for our training group, Helene and I debated whether it’s quicker to doff one’s wetsuit immediately after exiting the water, or to unzip, pull the suit to your waist, run and then take it off once you reach transition. One option that we didn’t consider was not taking it off at all. Ever. Not for the ride. Not for the run. Not until the race is over. That’s right, at Sunday’s race, Fabiola Falco did the whole race in her wetsuit.
There are a couple of remarkable details to consider. I wasn’t racing or wearing a layer of neoprene for 4-hours that morning and I was still sweating like pedophile on a playground, so it’s amazing that she even finished. Secondly, despite not having to take off her suit, it still somehow took her 11:20 to get through T1.
At least she remembered to lose her helmet before heading out for the run.
