The MORE Women's Marathon, which was scheduled to start at 7:40 this morning was cancelled by the NYRR due to the heat. The Half Marathon which was set for 8:00 has been changed to a "fun run" and will not be timed or scored.
It didn't hit 80-degrees until nearly 11:00 – after anyone running the half would have finished. Certainly there have been marathons and half marathons held in worse conditions. Is this an overabundance of caution? Is this because they fear that more and more runners are underprepared for races? Would they do this for the NYC Marathon or NYC Half? If NYRR fears hot temperatures, why schedule the NYC Half for the middle of August?
