Brooklyn Duathlon 2014
For years we've opened our multisport season with the New York Triathlon Club's Brooklyn Duathlon, and often with good results. Happily, this year was no different. In the women's race, last year's top two women (Nicole Sin Quee and Jessica Purcell) were on the sidelines cheering their teammates, but we kept the victory in the family as Nicole Falcaro led from wire to wire. Cole opened with a 12:00 run for the first two miles, and when the gap had tightened by the time she reached T2, she put the race out of reach for the competition with a 12:05 second run. For those of you keeping score at home, Cole has now done three multisport races, and won all three of them.
In the men's race, Brian Sica ran a strong 11:48 for the first run, placing him behind only eventual winner and pro triathlete Spenser Popeson and defending winner Garen Riedel. Brian slipped to 5th entering T2 and finished a strong 4th place overall and 1st in his AG. Behind him was Steven Zebrak who (despite a mechanical) finished 4th in his (very competitive) AG, while Bobby Dweck returned to competition and finished 2nd in his AG.
All in all, it was a fun and encouraging day. Congratulations all.
